Ilex Farms began in 1992 as Fred Harbison’s “sideline” after retiring from Gulf States Paper. Taking a few months to get started, the business really became viable a couple of years later. As the landscapers, designers, and building contractors of Tuscaloosa and surrounding communities became accustomed to this dependable source of plant materials catering to their needs, demand led the business. The nursery grew to fill most of its thirteen-plus acres. Filling both wholesale and retail needs of the west-central Alabama corridor, a good variety of trees, shrubs, garden flowers, ground covers, and more is available on site. Frequent special orders accommodate most other requirements.
